A simple walking the dog carry. I don’t carry a fixed blade so often but when I do, the GMF-1 is my go-to because of the size. A prybar is something I use every day and a hank is good to have in the pocket. The coin is carried just for fun, it’s a cool coin from a cool brand.

In the market for a new fixed blade. Would you recommend the Benchmade Hidden Canyon Hunter? Open for suggestions (small- to medium-sized). Suggestions for micarta scales for the GMF-1?

Taylor: There is no shortage of options when it comes to great fixed blades for EDC. It’s truly difficult to narrow it down to a single option. I don’t have personal experience with the Hidden Canyon, but my recommendation would lean more towards the TOPS Bull Trout, Ferrum Forge Lackey, or Bradford Guardian 3.

As for micarta scales for the GMF-1, @micah.amstutz on Instagram is a launch point for your search. Oak City Leather Supply also makes leather scales for the GMF-1, which are pretty neat.
